Getting to Tartu

The congress takes place in Tartu, Southern Estonia, approximately 186 km from the capital, Tallinn. Tartu connects to the world primarily through Tartu Airport and Tallinn International Airport.

Tallinn

The most convenient way to get to Tartu from Tallinn is by Lux Express coach. Buses depart every hour from both Tallinn Airport and Tallinn Coach Station (Lastekodu 46, 10144, Tallinn) to Tartu Coach Station (Turu 2, 51014, Tartu). The journey takes approximately 2.5 hours. Lux Express coaches offer free WiFi, hot beverages, and an onboard entertainment system. The return journey also includes a stop at Tallinn Airport.

The Elron train service operates regular trips between Tallinn and Tartu several times a day. Trains depart from Balti Jaam in Tallinn (address: Toompuiestee 37, Tallinn) and stop at Ülemiste station (a 15-minute walk from the Tallinn airport, the best option for those who land in Tallinn airport) before heading to Tartu Railway Station (address: Vaksali 6, Tartu). The Tartu station is located in a historical building 1.5 km from the city center. The journey takes approximately 2 hours. Helsinki

By Air

Finnair operates 12 flights per week between Tartu and Helsinki Airport, with departures from Tartu at 6:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and return flights from Helsinki at 1:50 p.m. and 11:55 p.m.

Tartu Airport Shuttle: Express bus E1 operates between Tartu Airport and Tartu city.

  • Late-night & early-morning: Bus runs from Annelinna Center to city centre to the airport.

By Ferry

Helsinki and Tallinn are connected by frequent ferry services, taking 1.5 to 3 hours. Ferries from Stockholm also arrive in Tallinn daily (journey time: 15 hours).

Once in Tallinn, you can take a bus or train to Tartu (see Tallinn section above).

Transport within Tartu

You can use the "Tartu bussiajad" (Bus Schedule) smartphone application (available for Andriod and IOS). Once you download the app, you can change the language setting to English. Tartu public transport is running on an environmentally friendly source of fuel.

32nd Congress of the Scandinavian Transplantation Society delegates can use public transportation in Tartu for free (the name badge works as a ticket).

If you don't have your badge, then the 1h ticket costs 2 EUR and can be bought from the bus driver when you enter from the front door.
